Effect of O2 on the Tribocorrosion of 17Mn1Si Steel in H2S Environment

Abstract

The tribocorrosion of 17Mn1Si pipe steel in a chloride-acetate solution bubbled with H₂S, air, and their 1:1 mixture was investigated. The ingress of O2 into an H2S environment leads to steel destruction due to the combined effects of anodic dissolution and hydrogen-induced cracking. With O2 presence in the solution, the abrasive nature of friction is determined by the interplay of pitting corrosion, hydrogen cracking and the formation of iron hydroxides in the corrosion products.
