Methods of Improving the Corrosion Resistance of an Additively Manufactured Titanium Alloy

Abstract
In this work, the effect of post-annealing or gas nitriding on corrosion resistance of addtively manufactured Ti6Al4V titanium alloy in a hydrochloric acid solution was studied by comparing it with a conversational manufactured one (wrought). As AM was chosen selective laser melting method which performed by 3DMetalTech company (Ukraine). It was established that post-annealing slightly improves the corrosion resistance of the AM titanium alloy compared to the deformable one. Instead, gas nitriding, due to the formation of a chemically inert nitride layer on the surface, improves the corrosion resistance of AM titanium alloy by 1…2 orders of magnitude compared to the untreated one.
