Abstract

Titanium alloy VT6 (Ti-6Al-4V) is widely used in turbine components but suffers from poor tribological performance. In this study, CrN, TiN, and multilayer TiN/CrN coatings deposited on VT6 substrate were evaluated at 20°C and 500°C. Results show that while nitriding reduced wear, the multilayer TiN/CrN coating provided the best performance, combining a low friction coefficient (0.3–0.5) with minimal wear rate of both alloy and counterbody, ensuring superior durability in demanding conditions.
